Teaching Year Program

Are you interested in teaching abroad? Do you have a desire to do Mission work?

Build Experience with us! We are seeking volunteer teachers to work at a Catholic Mission on the beautiful coast of Ecuador to serve as assistants in K-12 classrooms. All majors are welcome!

Mission Santa Maria is a U.S.-based non-profit, founded by a Franciscan University Alum, that provides support to poor children in Ecuador. We have four programs:

Scholarship Program for the Mission School – Provides scholarships for children who would not otherwise be able to attend school.

University Scholarship Program – Supports qualified graduates of the Mission school so t       hey can attend university in Guayaquil.

Boys’ Program – Provides a home and education for boys who have nowhere else to go, most of whom come from difficult home lives.

Orphanage – Welcomes children who have lost parents or who come from broken or abusive homes.

The Mission School is the last Catholic school in Ecuador and is run by a group of very dedicated religious women, called Missionaries. The children we support all come for poor families and those involved with the boys’ program or orphanage come from broken or abusive homes. These children need good teachers and positive role models in their lives. We encourage you to get involved with these children and the school beyond your assistant teacher role. Start a soccer club or a rosary group or a chess club, or just spend time helping the kids at the orphanage with their homework.

The Teaching Year runs from May 2015 – March 2016 to align with the Ecuadorian school year.
Apply NOW! Fill out the application and mail or email it in to us by April 10th, 2015. We will contact you for a phone interview and notify you of your status ASAP.

Teaching Year Volunteer Requirements:

  • Spanish Proficiency
  • Health Insurance
  • Fundraise for own plane ticket and expenses – Volunteers live at the Mission, so aside from a modest contribution toward your food and housing, expenses are quite minimal for volunteers. We recommend planning for $100/month.
