2013 was an exciting year for Mission Santa Maria. We had a lot of program growth allowing us to further support the poor children in Ecuador, all made possible by our growing support of donors like you.
We ended the year with total donations of $87,680. This tremendous outpouring of support allows us to send even more kids to school, looking to grow our Scholarship Program of 128 students who would not be able to attend without our financial support. Our University Program supported 3 students in their first year of college last year. In 2014 we will look to continue to support those students while also adding new students to the program. All this in addition to providing basic needs like clothing and school supplies.
Recent Grant: At the end of the year we received a generous grant from The Hope for Poor Children Foundation, a new supporter for our charity. Their foundation works to improve the lives of poor children and their families, primarily in the developing world, with a strong emphasis on self-help and personal responsibility. The Foundation concentrates on basic necessities, especially safe drinking water and sanitation, health care and nutrition, and education, by supporting well-managed, effective organizations on the ground. We are grateful to have been selected as a worthy organization.
On behalf of our entire team we thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to sharing more exciting updates through out 2014. To end this newsletter we leave you with a video from one of our recent visits. This clip highlights some of the unique efforts that are made to provide the students with a quality education:
