On June 30th, Mission Santa Maria held a triathlon fundraiser. Our board member Peter Bremberg organized the event and the group raised over $8,000. Peter has helped us a great deal at Mission Santa Maria. It was his idea that the board members would pay for our operating expenses so that 100% of donations would go directly to our programs. You can read about Peter’s story by clicking here.
With the triathlon, we have raised $43,300 so far this year! This means we will be able to help more children than years past. We are adding an additional 28 children to our scholarship program. These families are unable to afford tuition and would not send their children to school without our help. This brings our total children on scholarship to 128!
We will also be able to add students to our university scholarship program. We will soon be helping six students attend college. If these students graduate, they will be able to break the cycle of poverty that has trapped their families for generations.
We recently purchased laptops that will be used to assist the children in school. This project will target the children who are either educationally behind their peers or those children who have never been to school before (some children arrive at the mission unable to read or write at 12 and 13 years old).
Our donations have come from the Father Table Foundation grant ($15,000), our recent triathlon fundraiser ($8,000) and over $20,000 from monthly and one time donations. We are very grateful to all of you who have been a part of this success.
It is only through your generosity that we are able to help these children.
